Christina Watson (lyrics/vocals)

Christina is the 22-year-old lyrical and vocal force of WATSON – and one-half the intriguing brother/sister tandem serving as anchors of this eponymous upstart alternative band. WATSON is making an early mark in LA’s live music club scene, but don’t be fooled. Christina is no Jenny-Come-Lately to music. Her music resume exhibits voice, piano, and performing arts study for 17+ years.

Yet the tale of WATSON — with their deep connection to environmental and humanitarian influences — and Christina’s in particular cannot be told without diving headlong into unspeakable tragedy. For it was exactly 100 days before her second birthday when the 35-floor lower Manhattan NYC apartment building where Christina lived was set ablaze.

The date: September 11, 2001.

The family apartment was nestled in the closest residential building west of the World Trade Center’s South Tower. One of the tallest buildings in the world crumbled to the ground as steel melted and fell into the building. In the following mass evacuation, Christina and family – including brother/future bandmate Damon – settled in NJ for nearly four long and emotionally painful months. In the blur and chaos of a world forever transformed, a barely two-year-old Christina sat one day in her car seat and belted out “God Bless America” with precocious pitch and youthful exuberance. A life’s pursuit of music began, spurred on and informed by a world in disarray.

Piano lessons began at age five followed by voice, dance, and acting lessons. All along, Christina’s little brother Damon, a built-in friend, gladly joined in to collaborate on songs, play guitar, piano, or ukulele, and arrange and perform with big sister Christina first for family, friends, and acquaintances, moving quickly to various stages around NYC. Christina’s next stops in succession were Ballet Tech, NYC’s public school for ballet, Professional Performing Arts School (PPAS) for middle school and Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music, Art, and Performing Arts where she earned acceptance as, naturally, a vocal performance major. After nine years of performing arts education with four years of vocal conservatory emphasis, Christina embarked on exploration of other disciplines outside the performing arts, an innate passion for music luring Christina back upon acceptance to California’s Chapman University on a vocal scholarship. Her eventual transfer to and graduation from the school’s Dodge School of Film only strengthened her love and ear for music.

In 2019, brother and built-in friend Damon followed Christina to Chapman U., sparking the creation of the band WATSON and their prolific songwriting collaborative. WATSON’s material, driven by Christina’s astute lyricism, takes deep dives on of deeper issues of concern, from climate change, inequality, and political divisiveness to social media anxiety and how to fit into this crazy world with the consistent conscientiousness that defines Christina and Damon Watson. Even so, Christina bedecks her music with passion, joy and, ultimately, the fun of doing something she loves only equalled by the love it gives back to her.
